2026 Richmond election · public data

Richmond election data monitor

Candidates, historical votes, a 2026 turnout scenario and external forecast signals are labelled separately. This page never treats online buzz as a poll, and never mistakes councillor multi-vote totals for mayor-style support rates.

Two elections, two dates: this monitor covers Richmond's municipal election, October 17. A separate BC provincial election, called September 22, 2026, votes October 24 — see Elections BC.

Richmond mayor polls

Are there Richmond mayor polls for 2026?

One public poll of Richmond voters has been published. Pallas Data released a Richmond, BC mayoral and council poll on July 15, 2026, fielded June 24–28, 2026. Two qualifications matter more than the numbers: it was commissioned by the Conservative Electors Association, a participant in the same election, and it was taken before nominations closed on September 11, so it does not describe the final ballot.

CandidatePoll supportOffice on the final ballot
Kash Heed20%Mayor
Sheldon Starrett11.3%Councillor — not a mayor candidate
Alexa Loo8.5%Mayor
Rob Howard5.9%Mayor
Mei Kang4.3%Mayor
Dickens Cheung1.6%Mayor

Read the table with three limits in mind. Almost half the sample was undecided, which is larger than every candidate’s share and larger than the gap between them. The second-placed name is no longer in the race for mayor: Pallas polled Sheldon Starrett as a Conservative-endorsed mayoral candidate in June, but the City’s final candidate list names him as a council candidate for Advance Richmond. And two candidates on the final mayoral ballot were never polled — Dennet “The Cat Guy” Lee and Goldentiger King — because they had not filed when the survey ran.

Method, as published by Pallas Data: 304 Richmond adults eligible to vote municipally, interactive voice response (IVR) calls to landlines and cellphones, weighted by age, gender and region to the 2021 Census, margin of error ±5.6 percentage points at 95% confidence, subsamples wider. Source: Pallas Data, July 15, 2026.

In the same survey’s council question, 63.1% of voters named no preference. Among those who did: Conservative slate 16.8%, RITE Richmond 6.5%, RCA 3.9%, Richmond Forward 3.1%, Advance Richmond 2.8%, We Are Richmond 1.7%, Richmond Strong 1.6%. See what each Richmond elector organization is.

The chart above is not this poll. It shows an external prediction-market signal — not polling, and not projected vote share. Online attention, social followers and market prices do not represent a random sample of Richmond voters, and neither does a single sponsored survey taken three months before election day.

Vote in Smart Richmond’s reader poll for mayor and city council and see live results — an informal straw poll of site visitors, not a scientific or representative survey.

Candidate profiles & data

Ranked by projected 2026 votes (base scenario) for Councillor/Trustee, or external market win signal for Mayor; candidates without either are listed last, alphabetically.

Modelling mistakes this page avoids

Mixing vote systems

Mayor is a one-person, one-vote race; each voter can pick up to eight councillors. The two percentages cannot be compared or normalized directly.

Online buzz as support

Search, news and social signals measure attention only, and are skewed by advertising, bots and platform demographics. Measured mayoral Facebook/Instagram/X reach ranks candidates in close to reverse order of the external market signal, shown as evidence, not used as a vote proxy.

Cross-level vote transfer

Provincial and federal boundaries and party effects differ from municipal races; that history is background only, never converted into a municipal vote count.

Using a withdrawn candidate

The model uses the City's current final list after the September 18 withdrawal deadline, not the earlier nomination declaration by itself.

Scenario mistaken for forecast

Flat-share vote scenarios hold a candidate's past support rate constant. A campaign swing, a new strong entrant, or a turnout shock can move the real result far from this arithmetic estimate.
